Hearing is the last sense to develop in the process of evolution. It gets out of order with minimal insult. Varing degrees of hearing loss is very common in population’ There is long list of causes of hearing loss. Most of them are treatable. But treatment should be seeked earlier.

What you should know about hearing loss

Check YES or NO to each question for yourself or for an adult loved one:

  1. Do you have a problem hearing over the telephone?               YES/NO
  2. Do you have trouble following the conversation when two or more people are talking at the same time?        YES/NO
  3. Do you have trouble understanding things on TV?                    YES/NO
  4. Do you have to strain to understand conversations?YES NO
  5. Do you have to worry about missing a telephone ring or doorbell?    YES/NO
  6. Do you have trouble hearing conversations in a noisy background such as a crowded room or restaurant?     YES/NO
  7. Do you get confused about where sounds come from?   YES/NO
  8. Do you misunderstand some words in a sentence and need to ask people to repeat themselves?      YES/NO
  9. Do you  have trouble understanding the speech of women and children?     YES/NO
  10. Do you have trouble understanding the speaker in a large room such as at a meeting or place of worship?    YES/NO
  11. Do people you talk to seem to mumble (or not speak clearly)?    YES/NO
  12. Do people get annoyed because you misunderstand what they say?    YES/NO
  13. Do you misunderstand what others are saying and make wrong responses?   YES/NO
  14. Do you avoid social activities because you fear you will reply improperly?        YES/NO
  15. Have family members and friends told you they think you have a hearing loss YES/NO

YES answers to any of these questions may mean that you have a hearing problem. Several YES answers strongly suggest that Ear checkup and hearing evaluation is required.
